Joseph Baillargeon - Biddeford ME - February 7, 1968

Mary Olenchuk - Ogunquit ME - August 9, 1970
"Mary Olenchuk, 13, disappeared from her parents' vacation home in Ogunquit, ME August of '70. She was last seen parking her bike and getting into a maroon car operated by a white male in his mid-30s. Her reamins were later located in an abandoned barn near Kennebunk, ME a few months later." http://www.websleuths.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-31454.html

Judith Hand - Farmington ME - September 10, 1971
I'm not having much luck finding information about this case, although it took place in my home town at the time and I remember it. Judith Hand was, I believe, a young teenager, and was found in a wooded area with a stream pretty much in the middle of town. While this is about 100 miles from Ogunquit, there seem to be similarities between this case and that of Mary Olenchuk.

Jane Doe - Bedford NH - October 6, 1971 - victim in her 30's, "manner of death not disclosed" - this was before NH had a medical examiner - but listed as a homicide

Daniel O'Connell - Loudon NH - October 30, 1971 - "manner of death not disclosed", but listed as murdered. 28 years old, from MA.

Kathy Gloddy - Franklin NH - November 22, 1971 - 13 years old, sexually assaulted, beaten and strangled, left on a dirt road about 3 miles from her home, was missing on Nov 21,

chronological discussion: 1968, Joanne Dunham, Charlestown NH

<>Joanne Dunham, 14. Murdered June 10, 1968. Found in Charlestown, NH the following day. She had been sexually violated and strangled.

I have so far found no information on Joanne's case than the listing above from Silky's site. Charlestown is just south of the Claremont area of NH where the CT Valley killings were centered. It seems possible that she might have been a victim of the first serial killer in the area, who was convicted, whose vicitms were young girls. This case is now 40 years old.

They are not forgotten

My initial reason for coming to the subject of this blog was selfish. In the fall of 2001, not two months after 9/11, I was hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I had parked my car near the Pinkham Notch AMC lot, and hiked the Lost Pond trail, which is a beautiful, easy trail. Not one month later, a tourist from Quebec, Ms. Louise Chaput, was reported missing and her body was later found close near the Glen Boulder trail. While searching on the internet, I found a number of links about the Conneticut River Valley murders which apparently took place from the mid-70s through the 90s. I was startled by the fact that, despite decades of travelling roads in these areas, I had never heard of these cases. One of the links I followed was to Silky Boxerz' fine site:
NH & VT Missing Persons

Then, in late 2004, I became aware of the disappearance of UMass student Maura Murray, whose car was found in Swiftwater, NH, on February 9, 2004, and who has not been seen since. The number of missing persons case and unsolved murders in northern New England and southern Quebec is great. Some of this undoubtedly is due to the large wilderness areas of the region. A number of us looking at these cases, however, have noticed some similarities in some of them. This blog is for the purpose of finding information about these cases.
All respectful discussion is welcome.
